[Phrases] That’s That

We all know the contraction “That’s…” which used to identify a person or thing. For example, “That’s mine.” claiming ownership of someone or something. But what’s the meaning of the phrase “That’s that?”

The phrase “that’s that” used to show that there’s nothing more needs to be said or done; the matter is finished.

For example,

“Well, if that’s the way you want it,” he replied, tears in his eyes, “I guess that’s that.”

This phrase shows that the speaker thinks that the thing has ended, and saying more will not help.

1. that is(to say)

This usually is used to say what something means or to give more information.

You’ll find her very helpful─if she’s not too busy, that is.

He’s a local government administrator, that is to say a civil servant.

2. and (all) that

This idiom means “and similar or associated things; et cetera”

3. that will do

That is enough (as a command/warning) no more!

4. that`s for sure

(stands after a statement) that is quite certain.

Once I’ve passed the exam, I shall never open another book physics, that’s for sure!

“What’s wrong with your shoes?””

I don’t know, but I need new ones, that’s for sure
