[Buzzword] Generations X, Y, And Z: Which One Are You?

Hiya! What separates Generation Y from X, and is Generation Z a thing? How old is each generation? Are they really that different? You will have the answer after reading this article.

Generational cohorts are defined (loosely) by birth year, not current age. All members of a generation share a similar collective experience.

Today let’s focus on Gen XYZ!

  • Gen X (born between 1965 and 1980)

They are currently between 40-54 years old (82 million people in the U.S.)

Their parents both go to work and have little time to supervise them. This causes Gen X more peer-oriented. The popularity of computer makes Gen X more entrepreneurial than their parents and grandparents. Music also defines this generation with the invention of music videos and the popularization of hip-hop, rap and grunge.

  • Gen Y or Millennials (born between 1980 and 1996)

They are currently between 25-39 years old.

People complain that Gen Y is selfish, entitled, narcissistic, addicted to their phones, lazy, impatient, impulsive, weak-willed, etc. In fact, the sweeping technological advances of the digital age have made Gen Y much more group-oriented than their predecessors.

  • Gen Z, or Centennials (born from 1997 to the present.)

They are currently between 4-24 years old (nearly 74 million in the U.S.). Literally speaking, children who are born in the 21st century belong to Gen Z. 40% of Gen Z says a reliable Wi-Fi connection is more important than a reliable bathroom

Discussion:

Are you a typical Gen Y ( (born between 1980 and 1996)? In which part you are different from Joe Gen Y?
