[Phrases] Idioms To Describe People And Their Personality

When you think of your friends, family members and colleagues,  you come across individuals with different personality traits or character. These characters are very different from each other and is the unique differentiating factor through which we are identified. What kind of person are they? Are they always happy? Or are they always complaining?  In today’s episode, we are going to learn 5 idioms that can be used to describe people.

1. down to earth

Realistic or interested in everyday occurrences.

She is a very down-to-earth person, not at all involved with the glamour of Hollywood.

2. tough cookie

A strong, determined person who is not easily intimidated, discouraged or defeated.

She had a difficult childhood, but she is a tough cookie. I know she’ll be success.

3. cry baby

A person who cries or complains a lot, especially for little reason.

James whines and complains whenever he doesn’t get his own way. He is such a cry-baby!

4. barrel of laughs

A word used to describe a person who says something that sorta funny but not really. It is generally used nowadays in a sarcastic context.

-”Is Mr. Grant always cranky?”

-”Oh yeah, he’s a barrel of laughs!”

5. cheap skate

Someone who is reluctant to spend money.

Oh he’ll never pay for a fancy hotel suite like that–he’s a real cheap skate.

6. go-getter

Someone wants the best in life and they work hard to get to make it happen for themselves and nobody stops them.

We went to a job program and we had go-getterswho want to look for a job and want to make it happen in job force market.
