Everyone has different horror tastes: gore, psychological, and paranormal are some of the popular horror genres. As Halloween approaches, you may be looking for a good scare for you and your friends. To ensure you get the most out of your Halloween night, here are 5 horror films that you wouldn’t want to miss.
Our first horror film is The Conjuring. It’s a series revolving around Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators who help families experiencing disturbing events in their household. The first movie was released in 2013 while The Conjuring 2 was released in 2016. Having watched both movies, I preferred the first to its sequel.
The Conjuring takes place in 1971 revolving around a family who recently moved into an old farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. (Because who wouldn’t want to into a broken-down house in the middle of nowhere?) Paranormal events soon happen within the first few nights: Sadie, the family’s dog, is found dead, and the clocks all stop exactly at 3:07 am. Ed and Lorraine discover that the house is haunted by an evil spirit named Bathsheba. In 1863, she had sacrificed her week-old child to the devil and killed herself after placing a curse on those who will take her land.
The movie has great jump scares and doesn’t rely on gore to create an impactful horror movie. It’s chilling with a solid story-telling narrative that will guarantee to give you some good scares.
The Annabelle series is a prequel to The Conjuring series. It’s also separated into two movies. However, unlike The Conjuring, I preferred the second installment, Annabelle: Creation to its first.
Dollmaker Samuel Mullins and Esther lost their seven-year-old daughter, Annabelle, in an accident. Overwhelmed with grief, they tried bringing their daughter back. However, it was not Annabelle who was brought back but a demon taking on her appearance. The couple managed to seal the demon away in a doll and locked in Annabelle’s room. Twelve years later, Samuel lends their home to six homeless girls after their orphanage closes. Janice, one of the girls, becomes a target for the demon as it takes a special interest in her.
Similar to The Conjuring, if you’re a fan of supernatural horror and jump scares, you’ll enjoy Annabelle: Creation.
Train To Busan
Train To Busan is the best zombie movie I’ve seen. It’s exciting, thrilling, and pulls at your heartstrings.
Seok-woo is a divorced fund manager who is taking his young daughter, Su-an, to Busan to meet her mother. As the train departs, a convulsing woman enters the train and later attacks a train attendant who is the first out of the many to get infected.
Albeit a zombie movie, Train to Busan has a perfect balance of gore and horror. Train to Busan is a movie that cannot be missed.
