1. curb

Today we are going to learn “curb”. It means to control or limit something in order to prevent it from having a harmful effect.
eg:
(1) Trump’s remarks of no more patience with the North Korean regime show that he is growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress in curbing North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
(2) Google is making increasing efforts to curb gun violence, with a $2 million grant to benefit prevention programs in cities across the country.

2. assail

Another word is “assail”. If someone assails you, they criticize you strongly.
eg:
(1) Protesters assailed the proposed fare increase.
(2) In India, critics assailed a government proposal to build 100 waste-fueled power plants, saying the plan is against the nation’s efforts to cut air pollution.
